Well, I have now been home from arisia and settled for some time, so now I have time to write. This arisia was both good and bad. Some of the good things were that I actually finished the Moon Warrior's Staff in time to get it to the art show.
Cut off here )

Me, no where near my best, with staff )

Another good thing was that I actually sold some pieces at the art show! So that was cool. I actually got a wonderful compliment from a person who bought some of my art, and said she was going to put it up in her office right next to her Ansel Adams prints!

I also got lots of compliments on my athame and the moon Warrior staff, but no one purchased them, so I had to drag them back home...SIGH.

I got to see lots of my friends that I only see once a year, and managed to trade a large bag of dryer lint to my friend Heidi, who makes very cool art from it, and just about anything else she can gether hands on it seems. http://www.heidihooper.com/
for a piece of her art … So, in essence I traded dryer lint with Heidi, and I think I got the better end of the deal! Tortise of lint )

Hello, all. I just wanted to thank everyone for putting on a great con. It was my first of the Boston area, and it was a great time all-around.

For those of you who I might have met, I worked the Night Ops desk with Jim and Kit, among others. More than likely, if you saw a slight-of-form part-Asian wandering the halls zombie-like in the wee hours of the morning, you saw me.

Anyways, I'll leave off now. I look forward to next years con, for sure.

(since somebody asked, my personal account of the con is here)

I was the one in red satin bunny ears.

Had a great time, etc. Managed to avoid catching the Con Plague.

Here's a great image from Arisia 05.1.

I just wanted to say that, for me, this was the Best Arisia Ever.

I had a great time working as Security, as it was little different from the way I usually attend a con: walk around and hang out with as many people as possible, and see where the winds take me. However, as Security, I got to wear a nifty badge to go with it. (And get to know where all the good parties are...)

Despite losing my voice for various parts of the convention and needing to learn some ASL really quick, I had a great time meeting new people and spending time with old friends. I'm still working how exactly who I met and where, as I got very little sleep over the three nights, and being sick didn't help much. Except that I was somehow able to get to know people easier when I couldn't speak, compared to when I did have my voice...

Anyways, I want to thank all of the convention staff, especially everyone who was in charge of the food. I made it a point to hit the con suite and satff den every time I passed by, and I was never disappointed. I only had to buy dinner once, and that was because I wanted to spend time with some friends.

Volunteering is great for the budget.

WE - also known as Jake, or, for part of the weekend, Silent Jake, the Man With No Voice.

Or was it my 2nd and a half, seeing I went to the mini-Arisia at Noreascon?

In any case, here's my post about it here.

I did my volunteer time in Ops behind the desk. If I wasn't answering phones or going "ah, um....lemme see where that info is...," I was knitting (a pink scarf, then a Dr. Who scarf). I'm glad I did it, because it gave me much more perspective in what went into running a successful con. I was in awe and impressed with how issues were dealt with.

Speaking of knitting, a noticed a plethora of knitters walking around the con. I also overheard a woman suggest having a panel that was a "stash swap." Or, like at Noreascon, have knitting circles meet in the Con Suite.

Until next con!

Let's talk about panels. Specifically, problems with panels. I know that there was a panel ABOUT bad panels (I think I may have been the one to suggest it), but I wasn't able to make that one due to a conflict.

But I'm probably not the only one to notice that some, even many panels...well...there's no way to say it nicely...suck. For various reasons. And please note, I've been a panelist at Arisia for practically forever.

Among the problems I've seen:

1. The monologing panelist. There are three, four, even five or six people on the panel, but this panelist insists on doing 90% of the speaking. Nothing must get between this person's ears and the precious, precious sound of their own voice.

2. The bored panelist. S/he's not interested in the topic, but feels free to talk about some other subject that s/he IS interested in. Too bad for audience members who expected the panel to actually cover the listed topic.

3. The audience member who won't shut up. We've all seen this one, and it's painful.

Yeep, look at the time! I'll come back to this in comments. Please add your own ideas.
