This will affect many folks who commute to Arisia:

The Red Line will be closed between Kendall and Park street stations for every remaining Saturday and Sunday in January, because of Longfellow Bridge construction. Shuttle buses will replace trains between Kendall and Park. More info here.

In addition, the bridge will be closed to all car and bicycle traffic from Friday at 11 pm to Monday at 5 am each weekend. Bicycles and pedestrians in both directions will have to share the north-side sidewalk. More info here.

The Silver Line (SL1) is running Late Night Service.

The last train to South Station on Friday and Saturday will be at 2:22 AM.

On Sunday, the last train will be at 1:10 AM

ETA: no longer available

I have a four day registration, a king room at the Westin to share, and a round trip train ticket from Washington Union Station to Boston South Station to sell. (My room mate had a last minute work situation come up.)

Please email me at zvilikestv@gmail.com if you are interested in all or part of the above. (please, only women to share the room. )

If we have another warmer-than-usual winter, some of us 'commuters' may be interested in bicycling to the Arisia hotel. This page describes secure indoor bike parking, and how to access it: http://2013.arisia.org/BicycleParking

Arisia is considering hiring a shuttle to take people to the memorial service for Badger at MIT on Friday (1/13). To help us figure out what size van or bus we might need, please let us know if you might like a ride from the Westin to the service and/or back from MIT to the Westin.

There will be a dinner shuttle to Faneuil Hall Marketplace from 6pm - 11pm. The shuttle will pickup/drop off across from the McDonald's at Quincy Market. The last bus will leave Quincy Market at 11pm.

Faneuil Hall Marketplace is a large hall with a collection of small food stands, large restaurants, and shops.

ETA: Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

I will be driving up from Philadelphia Thursday and driving back Monday. Is anyone interested in riding with me, one or both ways? Sharing the driving would be welcome but not essential.

I can take one rider, possibly two, but there won't be room for more with luggage and all.

Answer me here or at (same user-id) at google's mail service.

There was discussion on a friend's LJ on how to get to the Westin from the overflow hotel by public transit, and I don't think anything has been posted here or on the Arisia site. Here's my best shot at it; refinements and corrections are welcome.

The closest subway station to the Doubletree appears to be Tufts Medical Center. From here, take an Oak Grove train to Downtown Crossing. Transfer to an Ashmont or Braintree train on the Red Line, and go to South Station. Go to the Silver Line area; the Silver Line is a bus service, but you board without needing an additional ticket or transfer. Take the SL1 or SL2 to World Trade Center. From there, come out the front and cross the bridge, and the hotel will be ahead of you. The walk is about a quarter of a mile.

On the return trip, take the Alewife train on the Red Line and transfer at Downtown Crossing to the Forest Hills train on the Orange Line.

If you're just in Boston for the weekend, you'll be buying a Charlie Ticket; each trip is one subway fare. There are machines selling them in all the stations.
