Does anyone have the name and contact info of the artist who participated in the accessible art tour who makes handmade bowls and pots? Thanks in advance.

So, I've een waiting very patiently, which is very hard for me to do, and I haven't seen or heard any news about when this year's masquerade dvd will be available.  Did I miss something, or is it still up in the air?

thanks so much <3

So this past Arisia at the con-suite I talked to someone about Boston costumers looking for girls to display their creations. Unfortunately I promptly lost her card. Now I love playing dress up but cannot sew for the life me. However if someone wants to put me in something completely insane I'll totally wear it as long as I don't look totally indecent. Is there someone I can talk to about doing this? Let my dreams of ruffles come to true!

Hi,

Arisia tech has posted a video of the "Costume Friendly Tech" panel from Saturday morning of Arisia '10.  Costumers who were unable to attend might find this helpful.  It gives an overview of the ways tech can enhance your masq presentation.

Arisia's Naughty Nurses sing their song "Hey There Big Giver" to promote the weekend's Blood Drive (and Bone Marrow Registry). We got 101 pints of blood donated and more than 70 people signed up for the bone marrow registry.

[I must apologize for missing the first minute of the performance. It took me a little while to remember that I had a camera]

It took more that a dozen upload tries, three different applications, two different browsers, and several reboots before I finally got the video uploaded!

p.s. If you're having problems with getting YouTube to upload a video, try using their bulk uploader.

A big Thank You to everyone who donated eyeglasses.  We collected 68 pairs of eyeglasses to donate to OneSight.

Each year, OneSight conducts Clinics in developing countries where doctors and trained volunteers provide free eye exams and recycled eyewear to thousands of people in need. Donated glasses are collected and are sent to a OneSight recycling center where glasses are cleaned, prescriptions are categorized and glasses are prepared to be hand-delivered during a Global Clinic.  For more information see OneSight.org.

Now that Arisia 2010 is over and everyone has returned home, I just wanted to thank everyone for making it a great con.   We had about 2416 memberships with 2307 actual attendees.  The staff worked hard including some people taking multiple jobs to make sure everything got done.  But we couldn't have done it without all the attendees too - volunteering, throwing parties, participating in panels & events, costuming, and so on.  These are all part of what makes Arisia great.  I had a great time and I hope you did too.  [Yes, the theme of this paragraph is "great."]

Of course, there is still some work to do.   Please get any outstanding expense reports to Jill.  We'd like to close the books as soon as possible.

Crystal will be sending out more information about the Staff Debrief including the suggested format for the Debrief notes.  The Staff Debrief will be on Sunday 21 February (the week after Boskone).

Which reminds me, if you regularly help out at Arisia and want to know what is going on with the ConCom you should consider joining the staff or staff-announce mailing lists.  Staff-announce usually just covers the really important stuff - meetings, hotel reservations, and the like.  Staff is more in-depth [edit 1/25: and automagically includes everything sent to staff-announce.]

okay, it's been a week now and youtube is still void of any footage of the Naughty Nurses Saturday night skit at the Masquerade. I know it exists. Someone showed me a vid clip from their camera or phone. I've just completely spaced on who he was. I also find it hard to believe that he'd be the only one who got it. So where is it already? Bueller?

I saw a LOT of amazing characters and costumes at Arisia this year. I am always scouting for new talent and amazing things to incorporate into Nightmare Vermont, a Halloween event in Burlington. The vision and writing process is gearing up in February. If you've got a cool costume, a cool gadget, or a cool character and you'd like to be involved, please contact me!!

We've had great luck with Arisia folks and their weird and amazing skillz.

Also: CALLING ALL STILTWALKERS!!

We're hoping to have some stiltwalkers for a performance at Burlington's largest drag ball on February 13th. Spread the word. Anybody interested?

Here is a recording of the live, switched IMAG of the Geeky Bellydancing performance from Sunday, January 16, 2010, at 5:00pm.  It was produced by Arisia tech. http://www.vimeo.com/8930741

Now it looks like the videographer from The Phoenix has posted videos from the bellydance show:

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] ambyr when she said,

"...what I'm really interested in isn't "extrapolating the future of disability through the lens of science fiction" (I am generally skeptical of "science fiction as a means of predicting the future"), but in what today's speculative fictional presentations of disabilities say about our current perceptions, and how speculative fiction can be used to hold up a mirror to ourselves and change the ways we see disability now."

Not a gee wiz panel about advances in medicine and technology. Did you know in the future, "disabled" people will instead have superpowers?

How about this not be the panel discussion.

This panel should be planned better next year and start from the "social model versus medical model" of disability as introduced into the conversation by [livejournal.com profile] tikva.

/huge thank you shout out to [livejournal.com profile] tikva./

Hey kids, so this is selfish and stuff, but despite that my date to the con was a photographer, I didn't actually get a single good photo of the outfit I wore Sunday. I was wearing a big blue and bronze checked straight-laced corset dress with a bustle. Anyone get have a shot?

I read the sign giving the source of the bread in con suite as donations by three or four bakeries, but was the story behind it?
