At this year’s Arisia our own clan made its strongest showing at the great tribal gathering. With the return in force of the Washburn family (including their newest addition), the first all-members presence of the Brenton clan and the first-time attendance of my darling boyfriend the extended Allston commune was nearly fully present. There were laughs and drinks and geekery shared with local friends seen too seldom throughout the year and welcome reunions with farther flung friends sadly seen only annually these days. There were also grand new folks to meet including a pair of delightful Canadians and a charming lady I have met several times but only when we are inebriated so it’s always kind of new.

I sampled food from New Orleans, liqueurs from Montreal, wore a toga and a mouse costume (both in the same night). Once again I saw the Skanks in line at registration and then never again all con, much to my disappointment. I listened to a favorite author read an unpublished story and sold two paintings in the art show. I actually made it to a 10 AM panel on Saturday morning! That never happens! There were beautiful costumes, clever tee-shirts and rocket fuel. I was touched by the generosity of a vendor and the hospitality of an evil queen. I can’t believe it’s over and I can’t wait for next year.

Special thanks to: N. K. Jemisin, Security, Access Services, Registration, Art Show, [livejournal.com profile] selkiechick, [livejournal.com profile] snarkyman, [livejournal.com profile] zentinal, [livejournal.com profile] eric_in_elevatr, [livejournal.com profile] amerigance, [livejournal.com profile] augustsnow, [livejournal.com profile] richenza, [livejournal.com profile] devoken, Joe, Norah, Joey, J.D. Hobbes, Rebecca, Dr. Karen and pretty much everyone else who added to the living swirling tapestry of quirky creative shenanigans that is Arisia.

And, as always, thanks to Shanna and T for getting me here in the first place.

[livejournal.com profile] rafaela, you were missed.

Hay -

I'm in need of a room to sleep in for the weekend.  I prefer no more than 4 people in a king size room and 5 people in a double.  I like to crash around 1am and up around 9:30 am.  I'm amiable, respectful and a quiet roomate.  Ive been going to Arisia for some time now and often volunteer.  I'm fine with the floor.  I often prefer it.  Got anything?

Arisia has a number of things in place to support attendees with disabilities at the convention.

We will be marking the back of badges again this year for people who cannot stand for long periods of time who need to bypass lines, or for people who need seats at the front of large events, due to mobility, vision or hearing. See the information desk in the lobby. We will also have parking spaces for wheelchairs and scooters in all panel and event rooms.

We will once again have a quiet room, to rest and take respite from the noise and chaos of the convention, in room 401.

We will have alternative format publications. Braille, large format, and electronic text versions can be picked up at the information desk (the Souvenir book is available as e-text with image descriptions by request). KonOpas, the online app for the Arisia schedule has been tested and is screen reader compatible, if you want to set up your schedule on a device before con. (Thanks to Worldcon, who found someone to test it).

Attendees bringing Personal Care Assistants may ask for a free membership for that person. email access@arisia.org for details

Arisia Programming is pleased to announce a full slate of Art and Maker workshops for 2015!

This year, we welcome the return of our popular chain mail workshops. Come learn the basics in Chainmail 101, or go to the next level with a Byzantine Weave. If you've got the basics covered, come learn how to make decorative chain flowers at the Make a Scale Flower class. Some of these classes will be offered more than once, so if you can't arrive early, you won't necessarily miss out!

Going beyond chain mail, if you've got a ton of old electronics sitting around, our Circuit Bending class will show you how to turn your old toys into new ones! In Soldering 101, you'll learn your way around a soldering iron. If fiber arts is your thing, learn to make your own Renfaire Rosette from scraps.

Please note that all workshops have limited enrollment. Sign-ups will be available at con on a first-come basis. Also, be prepared for a small materials fee. Sign-ups will be available at the Program Nexus. Also, please note that Program Nexus has moved to the Executive Boardroom. Our new location is past Registration on the Mezzanine level.

A full list of the offerings in the Art and Maker Track are available on our website: http://www.arisia.org/Tracks#ArtMaker. For our full schedule in multiple formats, please go to http://www.arisia.org/publications#Schedule.
