I know the Arisia crowd is pretty awesome and full of people who like good stories, playing games, and especially LARPing (I was super impressed with the LARP incorporation into the masquerade this year), so I figured maybe some of you would be interested in this:

You can watch the first two seasons of the show on Youtube, and it is really good. Fairly family friendly, too. :) If you can, please donate to the cause or help spread the word.

If this is an inappropriate post for this group, I apologize and will remove it, but from the people I meet at Arisia, this seems to be the sort of thing to fit right in.

P.S. Is it awesome or sad that I'm already working on a costume for next year's masquerade? ;)

There are only a few science fiction conventions that still show films in 35mm, and Arisia is one of them. The Arisia films program got kudos in a blog post at http://cerebral-ecstasy.blogspot.com/2012/11/international-sf-in-arisia-films-room.html. We're glad to see Baikonur and the rest of the film rarities that will be shown Arisia weekend deserve their recognition.

Don't forget the silent movie Friday night, with a live organ accompaniment - an Arisia tradition.

See the whole film schedule at http://2013.arisia.org/Films.

I've prepared a handout to go with the Friday night showing of Der Golem, which I'm accompanying. If you'd prefer to read it in advance, you can download it here.

We have our film schedule up now: http://2011.arisia.org/Films

(fun fact: Arisia is one of the last US sci fi cons still screening 35mm)

With all hurdles apparently cleared, I'm glad to say I'll be accompanying another classic silent movie at Arisia 2011. This time it will be The Golem from 1920. It presents a Frankenstein-like story against a serious background, as Rabbi Loew of Prague brings a clay statue to life in response to the Holy Roman Emperor's decree banishing all Jews from the city. It uses the old "creature goes out of control" premise, but then takes a surprising turn, leading to a very different ending from Boris Karloff's movies. Paul Wegener directs and plays the title role.

I'm digging into old Jewish folk tunes to create the appropriate musical feeling.
