Due to the impending blizzard, the debrief is moving to the evening of
SUNDAY, FEB. 17, at the Westin Waterfront, in a function room on the
Harbor level. We're still trying to pin down the exact room and time,
likely near 7pm.

Please note that we are piggybacking on to the end of Boskone. If you
feel guilty about that, or just want something else to do with your day,
a Sunday membership to Boskone is $15; Boskone registration (also on the
Harbor level) will be open until about noon on Sunday. Boskone itself
ends about 3pm or so. You do *not* need a Boskone membership to go to
this debrief.

Alas, this means no food, but if you help with Boskone tear-down
(starting about 4pm in the Galleria), they'll feed you pizza. For
parking, I suggest trying to find street parking, or the Boat Show is at
the BCEC; or use Channelside parking.

We will probably try to do some of the planned debrief agenda online, so
it's not too late a night. Details on that will be out shortly.

One of the ebooks that was promoted on the freebie table at Arisia was 'The Silence of Lir', by Mary E. Twomey. It was offered as a free Amazon download from the 18th-20th, but I asked for another hit for people who did not have a chance to download because they were at the con.

So it will be free TOMORROW, January 26th (one day only), through the Kindle store.

Arisia is committed to being a diverse and inclusive event that attempts to provide accommodation for people with disabilities. You can find more information at http://2013.arisia.org/Access

Recommendations

Arisia makes full use of the hotel facilities. Events are spread out, and a significant amount of walking will be required. There are a number of places to sit and rest in the hallways, in large corridors outside the ballrooms, near the panel rooms, and in the main lobby of the hotel. However, we recommend that if you use mobility aids, you should bring them or arrange a rental for the convention.

If you have serious allergies, we strongly advise that you bring medication with you, or a mask if your allergies are severe. Arisia has always had a number of service dogs in attendance, and you may also encounter any number of foods at the convention, as well as perfumes, dust, and many other common allergens. We ask attendees to go consider going scent-free for the convention, and for pet owners to go over their clothing with a lint brush, but it is best to be prepared.

For attendees who may be immunocompromised, be aware that there is a serious flu outbreak in Massachusetts right now. While the consuite and other food areas will be diligent in their cleanliness, you may wish to take extra precautions, whether that is medication, tea, or extra rest.

If you have any questions about accessibility or if you would like to make a request, please send an email message to access@arisia.org. We'll try our best to accommodate your needs.

ASL at Arisia

Any Deaf Attendees who wish to bring an interpreter with them, can get a free (Adult-in-tow) membership for their interpreter, when they register.

We will be having two ASL meet and greet sessions at the convention, 11am on Saturday and Sunday, at the tables near Starbucks. We will also be distributing pins to attendees who know some sign language.

Tactile Tours

The Tactile Tour of the Art Show will be on Saturday, and will start at 11:30 am.

The Tactile Tour of the Masquerade will be on Sunday, during Masquerade Halftime (about 9:30pm)

Please send email to access@arisia.org if you are interested in either tour.

Quiet Room

This year we are adding a Quiet Room, located in room 402, a space to take a break from the noise and chaos of the con and those omnipresent fluorescent lights. This is our first year doing this, so the room will be very simply furnished.

This room will have set hours:
Friday 4pm-10pm
Saturday 10am-10pm
Sunday 10am-10pm
Monday 10am-3pm

This room will have a minder, or someone checking on it frequently, and it will have a list of basic guidelines and expectations of behavior. To help people with allergies, we are going to ask that this be a food free space. We ask that people not sleep here, or try to use the space as crash space. Nursing moms are welcome, but this not be used as a play space for small children. This space will also have a gender-free restroom.

If you have ideas about how we might improve Access Services in 2013, or if you would like to volunteer to help, we would love to hear from you. Please email access@arisia.org.

I have several (probably 30-40) self closing plastic boxes that are about 2 X 4 X 2.5" and would like to see them put to good use. Would these be useful, they're perfect for holding paint, beads, small knick-knacks.

ETA DONE! Currently, cross-links between participants and schedule entries aren't working yet but we do intend to correct that. We will also be enabling the Twitter tool.

A Music Party with Emerald Rose (Fri. 10pm - 12)

Bring an instrument and a favorite piece, a song, or just an appetite for great music!

I have a double double booked, Fri-Sat-Sun.
It's on a quiet floor.

I need some roommates in order to keep it - I can't afford more than 1/3, and would prefer 1/4 of the total.

I'm a mid-40s guy. I sleep and wake late, snore some but will have a cpap to hopefully mitigate that, at the expense of a layer of whitenoise.

The only thing I ask is that the curtains are shut while I'm asleep, and I get at least half a bed.

I hope to have this all figured out in the next couple of days.

Greetings!

As we are getting closer to Arisia '13, I am once again compiling the Family Friendly Guide to Arisia! It will contain Do's and Dont's, a review of policies for children and parents, and some highlights of the con that will appeal to the family, besides Turtle Track and Fast Track.

That's where you come in. If you are throwing a party, or running an event at con that you think is great for the whole family, let me know and I will put it in the guide! Last year we had items such as Tea Parties, the Geeky Belly Dance Show, and Higgins Armory demonstrations.

Look for the guide to be available electronically soon, and the hard copy at Arisia.

Thank you,
Dale Meyer-Curley

Yay, I can make it to Arisia this year, but I no longer live local so I guess I will have to hotel it. Anyone have an extra bed already reserved at the Westin? I'd sleep on a cot too. Looking for Thursday through Monday if possible because I plan to volunteer for setup/clean-up. Little about me: Male, late 20s, in "real world" a grad student, outgoing but quiet/respectful, and non-smoking.

I'd be happy to split costs with anyone else in the room, and can contribute my AAA card if it beats the Con rate. Please msg me if you have any openings or email my username @ gmail dot com.

Thanks so much!

Hi everyone!

As we have for the past 7 years, The Post-Meridian Radio Players will be performing at Arisia. Until recently, our shows were on Sunday afternoons, bur we switched to Friday nights in 2011. Just about the only downside to that has been less time to publicize the show around the hotel, so I've taken to posting something here a couple weeks prior to the con.

The Day the Earth Stood StillThis year, we're going to be performing our radio adaptation of the iconic 1951 sci-fi film, The Day the Earth Stood Still, which we performed as part of our live spring show last year. The show features, along with many PMRP regulars, a very well-known face from numerous past Arisias: that of Blood Drive faceman, John C.F. Hodges, in the role of Klaatu.

The show was very well received last May, and we have hopes that it will garner the same kind of appreciation at Arisia! John's performance was really amazing.

The show begins at 10:00pm on Friday night in Grand Ballroom AB.

I am seeking a roommate to share a non-smoking room with 2 double beds
at the Westin Boston Waterfront.

While my reservation is from Thursday, 17 January 2012,
to the morning of Monday, 21 January 2012, I would expect most
people are looking for Friday through Monday.
I am an older male and have usually shared rooms with like,
but I am mainly interested in sharing the cost of the room.

I snore and, at conventions, I tend to keep odd hours.
