I first learned about Second Shift podcast at their live performance at Arisia. Over the years they performed at Arisia multiple times. They were finalists for the Parsec Award, for both Season 1 and Season 2.

Now lead writer Brandon M. Crose has made all the original recording scripts of Second Shift available for free download at http://brandoncrose.com/second-shift-scripts/

Last January, we arranged a BARCC (Boston Area Rape Crisis Center) workshop on responding to sexual harassment that was very well received and we promised to do it again this year.
We have arranged to have a workshop from BARCC on the topic of responding to reports of harassment within the community for Boskone & Arisia staff, and anyone else interested. It will be on Tuesday, December 11th, at the NESFA Clubhouse, at 7:30pm.

Detailed description:
Many people have had the experience of receiving a disclosure from an adult about experiences of sexual violence. The research is clear that peoples’ responses to disclosures can be critical in shaping the course of healing for survivors. This highly interactive skill-based workshop will explore common reactions to sexual violence (whether recent or long in the past), issues of secondary trauma, and a tool for responding appropriately and effectively. Additionally the training will cover activities that focus on challenging inappropriate sexual and violent behaviors in one'’s community and environment. *Please note that this is different from the usual work-provided harassment training.*

The clubhouse is at 504 Medford St., Somerville; parking is in the rear (359 Lowell St), or on the street (4 quarters/hour until 8pm). More directions at http://www.nesfa.org/clubhouse/location.html.

Please DO plan to arrive before 7:30 PM (but after 7 PM) so that we can start on time. RSVPs appreciated but not required (kovalcik@alum.mit.edu) so that we can get an idea of how many handouts to have them prepare.

Tomorrow night, Wednesday, there will be a slightly different type of "Lightning Talks" at the Museum of Science in Boston.

Te Museum of Science is showing a short documentary (30 min) about a giant Tesla coil that has been built in New Zealand. It's followed by a talk and a demo ("We'll kick it up a notch").

The Boston Globe article says that Steampunk costumes are encouraged and the three best costumes get to go inside the Faraday cage during the demo.

Tickets are $15 and can be bought online at MoS site (there's a $1.50 fee)

(The Boston Globe article has more info about the event and the film than the MoS site)

I'm going to the event, and probably will get a quick meal before the event at the MoS.

It's been a while since I've been to the lightning demo at the MoS, but I think you might want to bring earplugs.
