room parties

turtleduck and I were hoping to host one on Friday. We threw our hats in the ring really late, though, and we've never hosted a room party at a con before. If we do manage to get an official party on the list, what exactly does that entail? Do we get some kind of support from the con? Do we have to host in one of our reserved rooms, or could we sort of borrow a room from someone who's having a Saturday night party, or does the con provide a space? I have a lot of questions, so please forgive my ignorance, as I am not wise in the ways of hosting con parties. :-} Any and all insights appreciated!

Is there a theme?

The current theme idea seems to be "Laurie and Megan's Extremely Late Memorial Day Picnic," since we didn't get to hold one in 2005. :) That, with a side of, "Laurie and Megan are complete party n00bs."

Also, trowa_barton suggested that we could have a dramatic reading of the Hand Puppet Movie Theatre Presents Serenity. I like this idea. (http://www.jerrythefrogproductions.com/Serenity.html)

Ooo, I love picnics! :) I suggest red & white check tableclothes, baskets of fruits, and an ant farm, though I realize finances may be a limitation. *G*

Megan suggested checked tablecloths, yeah. :) Picnic baskets would be fun, too. Not sure that I can make an ant farm happen, though. However, we can probably make picnic food happen. Maybe I can solicit contributions, should we get approval. :-}

And thank you for the offer of setup/cleanup help! I just may take you up on that. I'll get back to you when I know what's going on.
