turtleduck and I were hoping to host one on Friday. We threw our hats in the ring really late, though, and we've never hosted a room party at a con before. If we do manage to get an official party on the list, what exactly does that entail? Do we get some kind of support from the con? Do we have to host in one of our reserved rooms, or could we sort of borrow a room from someone who's having a Saturday night party, or does the con provide a space? I have a lot of questions, so please forgive my ignorance, as I am not wise in the ways of hosting con parties. :-} Any and all insights appreciated!

Date: 2006-01-06 07:59 pm (UTC)Megan and I were thinking of a "Laurie and Megan's Extremely Late Memorial Day Picnic" theme, since we usually have a picnic in MD on MemDay weekend and didn't this year, probably would be a public party (or maybe public before midnight/private after midnight if alcohol is desired) and I would expect mainly susboid types to show up, as those are the folks who know us. But I expect there's some crossover between susboids and Loathers.
If it's a room reserved for parties the whole weekend, does that mean the con picks up the room tab? That's something I haven't been clear on.

Date: 2006-01-06 08:06 pm (UTC)they had a room reserved for parties that I could have all weekend, and never said anything about the price. then again, if I'd had enough enthusiastic, if po', folks willing to run the show mostly without me, I'd've not minded finding out I was footing the room bill at the last minute. (Now, the weekend will be significantly cheaper for me, even with 2 taxis a day to get to and from the con.)
the responses were: (1) folks who would love to attend, but wouldn't really have time. (2) folks who have little to no experience with Arisia offering but not sure what they could do. (3) folks who were asked to help with other parties. (4) folks who frequent KoL-specific gatherings, but only one Arisia a year, that they're unenthusiastic about prioritizing KoL that weekend.
