Hello Everyone,
Arisia programing has chosen not to put me on panels this year. (Their choice)I guess almost 20 years and close to 100 panels at the con, a master degree in Educational Media and a background in Media Psychology and Media Demographics are not needed for this weekend. If any past panel mates or panel attendees from my previous panels see me at the con and you have a moment, please stop and say hello. Thank you

I have never asked to present at Arisia (nor do I have anything to do with programming), but presumably after 100 panels you have shared your views and insights with hundreds of people, maybe they just wanted to give some new people a chance to present and get involved? (Otherwise the panels might get very crowded if no one was ever "taken off the roster!") /$.02

Clearly I took your spot. Sorry.

(Well, I figured that was more polite than, "That's because they didn't have a panel on entitlement this year!")

You created your account here to complain — semi-anonymously (if I knew you, I'd recognize you, but I don't, so I don't.) — about not getting to be on panels 98-100?

It's not a great 1st impression, just so you know.

The way you have put it makes it sound like you are relying on "being on a panel" for personal self-worth and identity and that's hard. Clearly you are well qualified and have done this before but are taking it hard and I'm sorry about that. I hope you find other, better, reasons to have fun at Arisia. Now you'll have time to attend other people's panels and support them, perhaps the way they have been supporting you?

No sour grapes. Find ways to enjoy your time off and participate.

Did you ask anyone why you weren't asked to be on any of the panels?

I think the outlet you're looking for is programming@arisia.org - they're pretty responsive to emails there. This close to con I don't know that anyone officially involved has time to read LJ.

After you've been on an average of 5 panels a year for 20 years, perhaps it's time to yield to others? You even had the option to do so gracefully, though you did not take it.

I fully support the Arisia organisers in putting different people on panels. During the 7/10 Arisias I have attended in the past decade I have often felt that one of the flaws of Arisia is going to panels on topics that interest me and seeing the same people saying the same things as last time, and the time before that, and so on.
