Hi,
Is wifi going to be available in the convention space? I've got people asking me if my panels will be recorded - I ustreamed a couple of panels at Anime Boston last year to great effect, would like to again if wifi is free or cheap.

Date: 2012-01-05 01:12 am (UTC)Is it fair to those people who are paying to attend the convention?
IMHO if you want to hear a panel you should pay to attend the con.
After all Arisia is spending alot of money to put on this con,
and alot of attendees are paying good money to attend the con.

Date: 2012-01-05 02:32 am (UTC)There is a fallacy there. It assumes that no one at the convention might not be able to make it to the panels; that no one is going to sign up for a volunteer shift, then learn a panel they want to attend conflicts (several positions such as registration would allow for an attendee to watch and pause the stream when they were needed to help). That the vendors, who are also members and either need to skip panels or hire help or close their booth are not interested in panels. That everyone who has paid for a membership is able to attend, and has not been waylaid by illness or travel problems. That no member is needed to stay in their room because their 3-year-old has naptime, or heck, after 8pm (since the panels go to 11:30) is just plain sleeping. That no attendee with fibromyalgia or other chronic pain condition will ever be kept from attending a panel because of their pain or the drugs they need to take.

Date: 2012-01-05 04:32 am (UTC)I think you'd have a point if huge swaths of the convention were available streaming online. But this is for one presentation, which I'm doing solo.
As noeltheone suggests, however, I'll run a speed test when I'm at-con Friday afternoon and see what bandwith availability is like - if it's at a trickle, I won't bother, I'd just be clogging up the tubes for people trying to get at their email. Thanks for the info noeltheone!
