Thank You, Arisia Con-goers!
Jan. 23rd, 2005 09:43 amOn behalf of the New England Garrison of the Fighting 501st, I'd like to thank all of you for making our first appearance at Arisia a productive and memorable one. Thanks to all of your efforts we were able to raise $500 for Katie http://www.heartofanempire.com/Katie/ . We couldn't have done it without all of you.
We are looking forward to coming back to Arisia next year. In preparation, since this was our first time officially attending the con as a group, what did you think of us? What would you like to see in the future? Were you adequately harassed and ticketed?
Thanks again! To see photos members of our group took check out our website at http://www.501neg.com/photos/thumbnails.php?album=213 . Also, check there to see where we'll be in the future, because with Episode III coming soon it will be a busy year for the NEG. We're always looking for the few, the strong, the expendable to join our ranks!

You guys were WONDERFUL!

Date: 2005-01-23 03:29 pm (UTC)As for feedback...I'm not sure I really have any. That's my first time seeing people dressed up like storm troopers, period, because it was my first sci-fi con... but I thought you guys were awesome! (Despite the fact that I became illusive for a while... :: shifts eyes. :: ).

Date: 2005-01-24 12:48 am (UTC)Thank you for your compliment. :-)
I'm seriously thinking of making a Padme Amidala outfit at this rate... just so that I can go to sci-fi cons and feel weird for walking around in Romanian-warrior-princess-based-attire. o_O That was interesting... but I love my costume and I spent loads of work on it so it was worth it anyway.
But yes, great seeing you too, and perhaps another con this year. ^_^ I'm new to the con scene... so you might have to tell me where they are, etc. But I'm all for it really. ^_^
And I'm getting long-winded...

Padme
Date: 2005-01-24 12:37 pm (UTC)I have two of hers, the handmaiden uniform one from Episode I (burgandy velvet frock-type coat) and the white battle costume from Episode II (the ripped one). Check out padawansguide.com for some really good reference if you're interested in one of her outfits. At some point I want to tackle one of the more formal gowns.
Re: Padme
Date: 2005-01-24 03:31 pm (UTC)Those are two of the outfits I was investigating, but, provided that I can adequately track down the correct flocked velvet, I may be tackling her Senate gown from Episode II. It's very very very tempting... And I'm sure it's a down-right pain in the butt too. X)

Re: Padme
Date: 2005-01-24 03:34 pm (UTC)A woman had that at DragonCon 2003, and it was amazing! She actually pressed the design into the yards and yards of velvet herself with a stamp (I think). I'm not quite at that level of costuming now, but perhaps someday :)
Arisia definitely needs some more costume eye candy (and I'm not talking about period/ren garb, I'm talking about sci fi costuming). :)

Date: 2005-01-24 04:27 pm (UTC)I started the Ep 2 Picnic Gown, and the dyeing part was what stopped me. I found that using Ritz just didn't cut it (I should have listened to tips online, ordering better quality, better color stuff). I didn't have time to seek out anything better, so the project is on hold. :)
"But I've heard that there have been some astoundingly awesome costumes at DragonCon."
Oh yes! If you can imagine it, someone's worn it. Its everywhere! Here's some pics from the last 2 we've gone to:

"I'd love to see pics of your Padme costumes, if you have them."
Here they are (the Ep 2 battle one isn't too great - it was thrown together kind of at the last minute so there are a lot of inaccuracies - still, I think it was good for last minute). I still have work to do on the Ep 1 costume, though the coat is done. Unfortunately I don't have a ton of great pictures of it:

The Picnic gown! Wow. I was looking at the corset for that and I was just astounded by the detail. I really want to go to another con now... lol

Date: 2005-01-23 04:42 pm (UTC)And, even so, just the fact that there were stormtroopers walking around -- and lots of different kinds of stormtroopers, too -- was SO FREAKIN' COOL!!! I mean, DAMN those were awesome costumes.
Come back, Imperial Fascistic Scum!
