As always we try to provide those attending Arisia with things we think they will enjoy. Sometimes this means bringing back favorite items from previous years and sometimes it means bringing in something new.
So, for all of you that attended the Friday night Circus festivities at con what did you think?

I didn't get to attend :( I'm a dealer and was late setting up on Friday. So my vote is, "Please bring it back so that I can go see it!". Thanks :)

It was a ton of fun -- I'd go again (and wouldn't mind seeing it in a larger ballroom).

Bring them back and give them bigger space- so many were standing in the back. They were fun.

I missed it, which makes me sad. So I hope you bring it back next year so I can see it!

My thoughts: I didn't get there before it started, and the room was small enough that it was hard to get in. I'm short, and could only see a little bit by squishing in around the tall people.

But what I saw was awesome. I hope you do it again... and that I arrive earlier.

I also really enjoyed the circus. I'd heard of Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band but had never had a chance to see them before, and they were a lot of fun.

It was fantastic. I was expecting just the awesome Emperor Norton's and got so much more. Sad the kiddo needed to go and be put to bed after she fell asleep in the middle of the circus room floor

Amazing Circus

I was HIGHLY skeptical about the idea.
WOW was I wrong!
It was bloody fantastic! Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band was fantastic. The other musical acts were amazing. I LOVED the improvisation number they created with improv dancing going on in the centre...uh, square.
And the end with people dancing and jugglers and the lira (sp?) was so much fun. An inspired creative evening of alternative fun, perfect for Arisia. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring them back!

It was advertised as a circus dance, and I dropped in many times, and there was no dancing (although I heard that there were a few songs people danced to). The performances were cool (although I didn't watch many), but if you are going to advertise it as a dance let people dance. I think that if it had been given more space there could have been room for people to dance while others watched performances, which would have been great.

I think there was a dance next door, in the other half of the Presidents ballroom.

I was confused by this too.

There was another dance going on. However, the description of the Circus Dance Extravaganza, fairly clearly discussed both performers and interactive dancing. Perhaps they really intended it to be this heavily slated towards performance, but that was not at all clear, and I (and some others I spoke with) were disappointed.

Concur.

Every chance I had to stop in, it was some musical performer singing or playing. The only clues I have that anything circus-like might be occurring was the ringset, and I caught one stilt walker and his marionette (sandwiched, I note for the record, between two musical performances). If you're going to give a concert, call it a concert, not a circus, not a dance.

But then, who am I to decide what 'counts' as a circus and what doesn't. For all I know, every single other act you had was an acrobat. The pictures sure suggest I missed The Good Stuff. -H...

There were some musical sets that had no performers involved but there was a lot of circus action going on that night, it was definitely a circus show. It's a bummer you kept walking in on the non circus sets.

It was the highlight of my con. I would very much like to see it return.

I was very very impressed. It was an awesome event, and I second all those saying "Wouldn't it be nice to have more space." *is aware of the Hyatt's function space limitations*

For those participating, how did having the ballroom C strip as changing (and tech-stash) space work out? Were y'all okay with working around roadcases etc?

I thought it was a really good space especially compared to some of green rooms I've used. There was room for the band and performers, plus there was enough space to stretch and warm up which for me is the most important part. I thought it worked out really well even with the roadcases.

It was *so* much better than most green rooms I've been in- the only (very nitpicky) complaint I had was that it was a little too dark and stuff kept on getting lost as a result. But, overall, hell yes. =]

Had planned to go early, ended up going later. Was sad to miss most of the "active" acts, but also enjoyed the last parts with awesome music. Would love to see them come back next year, to catch more.

Glorious.

But so loud that I had to leave, which made me sad.

It was *fantastic*. One of my favorite aspects of this year's con, and unlike anything I've seen at Arisia before.

The circus was great, especially the tumblers, jugglers, and aerialists. Don't let anyone use broken glass again. Those were not adequate precautions against getting glass in the carpets.
