I know this is last minute, but if anyone is coming from the Amherst-ly direction and has car space for two (possibly three) people and their stuff, we will be EXTREMELY grateful.  Willing to pay generously and share snacks.

Nanopress, a Canadian science fiction publisher helmed by Arisia's Fan Guest of Honour, René Walling, will be launching Burning Days, a collection of short stories by Glenn Grant, at Arisia.

". . . if you add Glenn Grant to the rather more loquacious figures of William Gibson and Cory Doctorow, a tipping point arrives. It becomes pretty clear that cyberpunk actually is primarily Canadian."—Bruce Sterling, from his introduction

A terrorist targets the cybernetic community of a teeming and diverse metropolis. Mecha gladiators battle in a decaying factory. Nomadiks, dodging desertification and the law, set up thriving temporary market towns. Rising seas and obsolete skills lead unemployed laborers to the darknet.

Find all this in more in Burning Days, Glenn Grant's new collection from Nanopress launching January 14th, 2011, at Pandemonium Books and Games in Central Square. Reading and signing start at 7:00 PM.

Party to follow 10PM-12AM at Arisia in René's suite.

I have a Double at the Westin in the party block;
I need 2 or even 3 roommates for Friday, Saturday, and hopefully Sunday to help split the costs.
I am female, a registration manager, on party staff, and most likely to be in the room for resting only; except it is the party block next to a party, there maybe some in and out for stuff. Sleeping needs will be respected as best as possible.

As for the past several years, there will be Friday night Shabbat services taking place at Arisia '11. They are unofficially co-sponsored by [livejournal.com profile] tremontstshul (Cambridge, MA) and hosted by [livejournal.com profile] zigguratlabs.

Room: Suite 1406-1407 (I think! if anyone reading knows that this is wrong, please advise)
Time: 5:00-6:00pm on Fri 1/14/11

The service is Conservative Egalitarian (led by [livejournal.com profile] chanaleh) with mixed seating. Siddurim (prayerbooks) and kippot (yarmulkes) will be provided. There is lots of singing, and all are welcome to attend.

These details will be posted on flyers at-con, including on the party board.

Hope to see some of you there!

Come for Sunday afternoon tea, cookies (sorry, cucumber sandwiches are out of season) and conversation with Lethe Press publisher Steve Berman and writers Connie Wilkins and Rita Oakes. Drop in anytime between 4:00 and 5:30 if you’re interested in reading, writing, or finding out more about GLBT speculative fiction. The room number isn’t yet known, but it’s the Executive Suite at one end of the party floor.

In the span of a decade, Lethe Press has become one of the faster growing and larger GLBT presses around. Their specialty is queer speculative fiction titles, including works by such writers as Tanith Lee, Beth Bernobich, Sandra MacDonald, Jameson Currier, Melissa Scott, and publisher Steve Berman, as well as the annual year’s-best anthologies Wilde Stories and Best Gay Fiction.

Hi -
I have an on-its-last-legs RAZR that I've been mostly charging in the car on my daily commute, as it and the similarly old wall charger no longer play nicely together.

It just dawned on me that when I fly up to Boston for 4 days and change I'm going to be using my cel a lot and I won't have the use of the car charger.

I figure lots of people used to use RAZRs and now have more 'modern' phones - does anybody have a surplus wall charger I might use for the weekend?

Aside from my plans to upgrade phones RSN it would make my life ever so much better to not have to go in search of one while still sickish (Radio Shack didn't have any).

(oops, didn't know the default for this journal was screened comments)

Last-minute program addition:

Sunday, 12:30PM: A Picture Framer's Tour of the Art Show.  A frame is an important part of the presentation of any 2D (and sometimes 3D) art.  Some artists use a frame simply to get the picture up on the wall, some choose framing elements to enhance their artwork, and some incorporate the frame into their artwork.  We'll tour the Art Show and I will discuss the framing choices made by the different artists and answer any questions about framing in general.

To get the guide, choose one of the methods below:
  • Download 'The Conventionist' from the Apple App Store or the Android Marketplace

  • Visit http://conventionist.com/getit from your phone’s browser

  • There will be a barcode image for you to scan at the con if you want to do that.

The guide will be listed under the "download guides" section of the application.

I saw this at PaxEast and thought it was really nifty and helpful.

I will (God willin' and the crick don't freeze solid) be driving from Philadelphia tomorrow to the con, leaving sometime  before noon but not too early: they're expecting something like 20" of snow in Boston & even more in Connecticut. Amtrak service was closed for some time because of a fallen tree on the tracks.

I will have room for one or two riders. My planned route is
  • from Philadelphia
  • I-95
  • Bristol-Burlington Bridge
  • NJ Turnpike
  • Garden State Parkway
  • Tappan Zee Bridge
  • I-287 (Cross-Westchester Expressway)
  • I-684
  • I-84
  • Mass. Turnpike
My own destination is with friends in Medford, but of course I'll drop people at the hotel first.
My cell phone number is 215 704-0046.
