[identity profile] marrus.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] arisia
Hi, everybody! As I mentioned once before in this forum, I'm Arisia's artist guest for 2008. In a rare & beautiful example of early planning, I was asked by the con-chairs in which panels I'd like to take part.

I thought it'd be much better to ask what YOU folks want to know. As I told the Powers That Be, I can talk about marketing your work, juicing the Muse (on which I hope to panel at Dragon Con), making a living as a creative, working for yourself in general, being an artist in the middle of a disaster zone, Formosan termites and why cork floors don't work in New Orleans...but maybe there's something I might be able to share that I don't know that I know. You know? ;)

If you pop over to my LJ profile or my website, it'll give you an idea on my background. Thanks in advance for your insights, and I'll see you in January!

I'd love to see a panel on how to draw backgrounds for art, and another on how to create dynamic art, but these would probably be targeted at the middle- and high-school aged kids.

I'm a big fan of "How to Work with Clients" but my degree is in Architecture so I'm prejudiced. :P

No idea (I don't do many panels), but...oh, -that- Marrus! LTNS!

This being Arisia, and not your grandmother's convention, I suspect a panel on erotic art wouldn't be beyond the pale, given a good hook.

Hey, polkas are actually a pretty hot dance, done at speed. :) (though I suppose you're breathing hard enough it's pretty hard to do much more)

Re "your grandmother's convention" -- I'd say Arisia is substantially less family-oriented (/limited) than Lunacon, Philcon, or your average Worldcon.

We usually have a panel on erotic sf/f, a reading by Cecilia Tan, a poly panel, etc. I'd love to see the Erotic Dueling Easels make a return.

If you'd like to participate in the EDE, I can poke Cecelia and she can send her feelers out for other artists.

Actually it might be interesting to do an Artist interview...

Materials, history, examples, and just a general discussion on body art: what works & what doesn't, permanent & temporary. And how to get around annoyances like hair, allergies, and so on.

(I personally think skin is a marvelous canvas, though I prefer temporary to permanent.)
