Has anyone one heard anything from him?
I poked the LJ and haven't gotten a response?
I'm considering breaking out the Gi again this year, but I'm just curious if our elusive head will be around?
If all else fails, email/LJ poke me!

Date: 2007-01-08 05:19 pm (UTC)I may just take you up on said offer. I'll be hitting the store in the next couple days and blowing some $$ on Ivory soap. (The least likely to cause allergies, and it's still good stuff.) And it's like 2$ for a dozen bars or something insane! :)

Date: 2007-01-08 05:38 pm (UTC)I am currently biting my tongue to keep myself from asking what you show. :D
I have to ask, though: if Ivory is too strong-smelling for you, what soap do you use? If there's a milder or less allerg-iffic soap out there, I'd be interested to hear about it!

Date: 2007-01-08 10:38 pm (UTC)(As for the other suggestion... Dr. Bronner's is ... an acquired taste, shall we say.)
I'm not sure I quite get the soap thing though, I mean, if people have a room and a shower, they also have the hotel provided soap. If they have soap allergies they ought to have brought their own. So, is this giving out of soap really anything other than a colorful way of making a point?

Date: 2007-01-08 11:30 pm (UTC)It is just a way of pointing things out to someone who may not notice it. Don't forget your scent is mostly invisible to you, but not other people.
It's just a friendly reminder. (Also why we're ninjas, we stay completely hidden and anonymous, so there's no hostility, or hopefully!)

Date: 2007-01-09 02:09 am (UTC)I find it very hard to believe that someone who was just given a small bar of soap (and, in essence, told, "You stink!") wouldn't have some hostility. Jokes are one thing; potentially embarrassing someone in front of their friends is quite another.

Date: 2007-01-09 02:14 am (UTC)Which is why we always pass things out to more than one person in a room. That way it's not targeting any one person, it's a lot less offensive that way.

Date: 2007-01-09 02:44 am (UTC)But it doesn't matter since I doubt how I would react is going to stop anyone, anyway. And I like to think I wouldn't be a target in any case. :-)

Date: 2007-01-09 02:49 am (UTC)They're the best targets to hit for a laugh, since they know they're not being hit because they smell ;)

Date: 2007-01-09 12:36 am (UTC)Buying large bars of unscented Dr. Bronner's or Clearly Natural soap or unscented olive oil soap from Kiss My Face and then chopping them up into small pieces (you don't need that much soap for one shower), would probably be the best way to go in terms of both money and being able to give soap to smelly people who are fragrance-sensitive or are vegans (all of the soaps I mentioned are vegan).
Actually, since the soap is in some sense symbolic, you really don't need to hand out more than you'd need for one shower, so you could probably get enough soap to distribute to 4-6 people out of one the large (8 oz or 10 oz, can't remember which) olive oil Kiss My Face soaps.
Also, if you can find no-name brand unscented glycerin (they'll be clear) soap, that might be the cheapest, and would have most or all of the qualities mentioned above.
Anyway, the takeaway message is that Ivory soap is far from the least likely to cause allergies, so at least have some soap that's fragrance-free (as in, fragrance or perfume is not listed on the ingredients list - the 'original' variety of most lines, while not advertised as any particular scent, usually has perfume in it) and uses glycerin (probably the cheapest) or olive oil as the fat.
