Has anyone one heard anything from him?

I poked the LJ and haven't gotten a response?

I'm considering breaking out the Gi again this year, but I'm just curious if our elusive head will be around?

If all else fails, email/LJ poke me!

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] stormsdotter. We need you! Last year's main Hygeine Ninja may not be at the con because he and his wife just bought a house, and fixing it up has been sucking every but of free time and loose change they have.

I can assure you that I have it on very good authority that the ninja will indeed by coming this year and still welcomes any and all ninjas-in-training.

Currently, the ninja is in Winnepeg. At the end of this week, he'll be in Boston. Who knows where he'll be next!

I will make the same offer this year as last - the use of the tech suite as a place to maintain anonymity and store supplies.

Ivory soap is rather strong smelling, and I at least am really allergic to it. However, I don't think I need the Hygiene Ninja's assistance, since I'm one of those people who compulsively show twice a day, even at a con, so feel free to completely disregard the previous sentence.

Yes and no. It means there must be VARIETY in the soap selection. We now know that someone is allergic to the stuff, thus other people certainly can be. We also don't want someone who really needs it to have that as an excuse.

Ditto that. I'm also allergic to Ivory. So yeah, variety would be good.

I am extremely allergic to Ivory Soap. It may be 99 44/100ths pure but that othe 56/100ths has 17/100ths of Mineral oil and it gives me hives.

I am currently biting my tongue to keep myself from asking what you show. :D

I have to ask, though: if Ivory is too strong-smelling for you, what soap do you use? If there's a milder or less allerg-iffic soap out there, I'd be interested to hear about it!

*shower*, jesus. I can't believe I made that typo. Typing without caffeine in the morning = bad.

I use Dr. Bronner's Peppermint soap (http://www.drbronner.com/drb_index.html).

Glycerin soaps are the least likely to cause skin irritation or allergic reactions - however they are also usually scented with flowers or fruits which have the usual risks. (Glycerin soaps are the clear ones that looks like somebody set some jello in a bar-of-soap shape.)

(As for the other suggestion... Dr. Bronner's is ... an acquired taste, shall we say.)

I'm not sure I quite get the soap thing though, I mean, if people have a room and a shower, they also have the hotel provided soap. If they have soap allergies they ought to have brought their own. So, is this giving out of soap really anything other than a colorful way of making a point?

(Also why we're ninjas, we stay completely hidden and anonymous, so there's no hostility, or hopefully!)

I find it very hard to believe that someone who was just given a small bar of soap (and, in essence, told, "You stink!") wouldn't have some hostility. Jokes are one thing; potentially embarrassing someone in front of their friends is quite another.

Unless you blanket the room, it still seems pretty offensive; I suppose it depends on the mood one is in but if someone were to come up to me and give me soap, I'm not going to be happy, even if they are giving it to *some* others, too.

Actually no since it is my choice to be there. I might well be annoyed but that's not the same thing.

But it doesn't matter since I doubt how I would react is going to stop anyone, anyway. And I like to think I wouldn't be a target in any case. :-)

the first year the Ninja hit my hubby. and I was like "what is he defective. N2mlq showers every day". then someone said you know the ninja. Besides if they hit just the needed it would be insulting. By hitting random as well or people the ninja Knows it becomes more a joke.

I Love the Ninja.

Ivory soap has, among other things, fragrance (aka perfume). This is probably what's causing the problem for most of the people who have reactions to Ivory soap. The 99 and 4/100ths pure or whatever it is thing is just marketing. There isn't any real definition of what 'pure' means for soap.

Buying large bars of unscented Dr. Bronner's or Clearly Natural soap or unscented olive oil soap from Kiss My Face and then chopping them up into small pieces (you don't need that much soap for one shower), would probably be the best way to go in terms of both money and being able to give soap to smelly people who are fragrance-sensitive or are vegans (all of the soaps I mentioned are vegan).
Actually, since the soap is in some sense symbolic, you really don't need to hand out more than you'd need for one shower, so you could probably get enough soap to distribute to 4-6 people out of one the large (8 oz or 10 oz, can't remember which) olive oil Kiss My Face soaps.

Also, if you can find no-name brand unscented glycerin (they'll be clear) soap, that might be the cheapest, and would have most or all of the qualities mentioned above.

Anyway, the takeaway message is that Ivory soap is far from the least likely to cause allergies, so at least have some soap that's fragrance-free (as in, fragrance or perfume is not listed on the ingredients list - the 'original' variety of most lines, while not advertised as any particular scent, usually has perfume in it) and uses glycerin (probably the cheapest) or olive oil as the fat.

I have a whole bag of hotel mini goodies for the Hygiene Ninjas - come find me on the 16th floor - I'll be the one nominally in charge

I may just stop up there and pick up the pile. Or it can migrate to the tech suite at any point. I'm more than happy to facilitate this as much as possible... and considering how publicly visible my own job is, I can clearly be proven to have nothing direct to do with it :-)

Unless, of course, I'm really a ninja....
