One heads-up about the new Arisia hotel that I feel compelled to share, after doing numerous bookseller trade show events there. In years past, they have kept it very, very, VERY warm in the function rooms and restaurants. Even on the coldest days, I've never felt so much as a draft in their lobby, and in the pub it can get downright tropical.

Things may have changed there since last year's Boskone [the most recent event I attended there], but better to be safe than sorry. Light interchangeable layers, not sweaters, will serve attendees well for those who are not costuming, even if we have another MLK weekend blizzard.

Nisi Shawl's Writing the Other workshop is full as of now. Everyone who signed up should have received a confirmation email -- if not, check your spam filters and/or email goh at arisia dot org.

Kelley Armstrong's YA fiction workshop still has spaces and is now first-come-first-served, without priority for students. Everyone already signed up is about to get a positive confirmation email.

As you prepare for the convention known as Arisia, the folks at Ziggurat Labs would like to offer these packing tips to enhance your Mad Science experience:

1. Pack Pajamas*!
Ziggurat Lab's annual pajama party runs from 7:30 to 1am on Friday night. Why, you may even want two sets: one for the kid-friendly first hour, and another for the grown-up** hours!

(*or Pyjamas, for those with a superior orthographic sensibility)
(**for all ages of grown-ups.)

2. Pack your boots
In case you haven't noticed, it's snowy out there! Boots with lasers mounted on them could melt the ice for you. Is that too much to ask?

3. If you pack a Wormhole, remember your extractor!
Nothing's worse than getting all your Con goodies neatly packed into a quasi-atomic radius... and then realizing you can't get them back out once you're home.

Happy packing, and remember, it's for Science!
