I've put some photographs up on Arisia's Facebook event page. More are coming. Just a friendly note that if you see yourself in any pictures that you would not like to be in, please let me know, and I'll delete the picture or obscure your part of it, whichever I feel is more appropriate. I also have larger-sized originals if you like one of you and want a better copy.

BTW, the con guys did a pretty bang-up job this time around. I wish other conventions were run like this, and I'm already registered for and looking forward to next year's. :)

When I checked in on Friday night, I was told there were two people with "Anakin" on their badges. I kept my eye out all convention, but I never found the other one, and I'd love to say hello.

Would the other Anakin please stand up?

Looks like the website was taken down after the con ended? I can't get to it now -- no such host.

Hi - Stephanie, the person who did the freebie table here. I was at the dead dog last night and I noticed that there was a pile of passes for the Legion showing this Thursday at the Boston Common AMC. The show is at 7pm. After making sure that no one who was still there wanted them, I took them to pass out to Arisians through here (I was already planning on going, since there was another batch of passes that had passed through my hands, and the movie looks good).

So. There are 10 passes here, each good for 2 people. I will be at the Boston Common AMC at 6:30 to hand them to anyone who would like to come.

I am the large woman with the strawberry blonde sort of hair that is striped with black and bleached stripes if you don't know me already.

As promised, here's a list from the Must-Read Stories panel which was in 201 on Saturday from 7-8. My notes were not complete, so I'm sure I've missed many books that were mentioned at the panel; I hope that other panelists and attendees will fill in what I've missed. I'm also including stories on my list that I didn't have time to mention.

The list is in alphabetical order by author's last name.
Looking over the list, I can see that we easily could have gone twice as long without doing justice to the topic. Please consider this just a "starter" list - I, for one, could easily add dozens more to it.

I enjoyed doing the panel very much - thanks, everyone! You were all great.

This was my first year running the literature track (ran comics track in '08 and '09), and I didn't get to many panels I wasn't actually on, so! I seek panel feedback! What went well? What didn't? What was well-attended? Any issues?

This would also be a great place to thank panelists you particularly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi, I'm Dave Storrs--I was Game Room mod a lot, and ran lots of games of Werewolf.  I was generally wearing either a red sweater or red shirt.

I move to San Francisco in a few weeks, so Arisia 12010 was my send-off party from the East Coast.  I had a wonderful time and wanted to thank all of you for making it such a blast.  In particular, I hope the following people will drop me a line and say hi--I meant to get your contact info but didn't, for one reason or another.  My email is dstorrs.public@gmail.com.

* Jenny and Susan, the (respectively) raven- and fire-haired goddesses who made the Are You A Werewolf games fun and rocked the world at Encore.

* Grendel, the ferocious Viking who shared his Pucker and his beer and commiserated with me at 5am.

* Stephanie, with whom I *almost* made it to dinner out and then spent most of an evening chatting with.

* Spar, who does gorgeous rope work and was kind enough to re-run his panel run a rope-work panel for me when I mentioned that I was sorry to have missed it the official one because I was working.

If you happen to know any of these folks and could drop them a pointer to this post, it would be much appreciated.

See you all at Arisia 2011!

Dave

Just a quick note to say that I had a FANTASTIC time this past weekend, and it was wonderful to catch up with old dear friends, and to make some new ones!  To anyone I didn't see or get the chance to really hang out... well, poopie.  We need to work on that.

Later, I will post links to photos and videos.  I was lucky enough to get some VERY awesome ones.  Including some footage of me making a complete and total ass of myself at the "Humor and Fandom" panel.

And, of course, anyone I met (or who just saw me on a panel or something) who wishes to friend me, either here on on Facebook, is more than welcome to.  I don't feel I can have too many friends.  :-)

I hope to see many of you in August at 5PiCon (where I am honored to be the "Guest of Awesome" this year, although they have obviously confused me with some other, MORE awesome guy...  ;-P ) or perhaps at Wicked Faire or The Steampunk Worlds Fair.  For those you can't make it to any of those, well, see you next year at the Westin Waterfront, if not sooner!

Since I know a ton of folks who love steampunk and were at Arisia, and it would be fun to see y'all again on Monday...I have no affiliation with the event or venue, I just think y'all should come to:

Clockwerk Macaberet (Club dancing, steampunk theme)
Monday, January 25 at 9:00pm to Tuesday, January 26 at 1:00am
Ceremony (An Tua Nua), 835 Beacon St. Boston, MA

I want to give a huge and hearty thank you to everyone who supported, volunteered, and attended the "Never Never Land in 1875" hoax WorldCon bid party. It was a fantastic time.

We raised $123 for The Home for Little Wanderers, a Boston-based child and family service agency.

Keep an eye out for us next year!

Here's a picture of typical moment from the Green Room

Our Green Room guests were wonderful this year, and we had so much fun serving you all. Thanks so much for coming in, eating our food, and for all the kind comments in our guest book. We hope to make next year's Green Room even better.

Above all, we'd like to thank our incredible staff , [livejournal.com profile] erin_trying, [livejournal.com profile] xoder, and [livejournal.com profile] glib_dichotomy, [livejournal.com profile] kitteridge [livejournal.com profile] xrlyehx and [livejournal.com profile] corvaxgirl. Our volunteers pre-con and at-con worked incredibly hard to get the food, equipment and cooking in place, especially [livejournal.com profile] bbbsg and [livejournal.com profile] chillguru who let us use their kitchen at the last minute. We had people just wander in and help with dishwashing! How amazing is that? And they even came back for more.

Also, thanks our counterparts in other hospitality areas, Conor, Rachel and Mali. Deep bows of respect to our benevolent overlord Cris, our Con Chair Rick, all of the great people in Ops.

We'll also fondly remember the remaining hotel staff from last year who were so nice to us this past weekend.

So, to everyone who made Green Room possible, my profound gratitude!

[edit - in my mind, it goes without saying, but none of you are living there, so please also give a round of applause for the genius behind most of the organization, [livejournal.com profile] rosefox who's spreadsheets, culinary skills and planning made all of it possible.]

Hi everyone!  I saw the great pics that [livejournal.com profile] batwrangler posted from the Masquerade, but I'm wondering if anyone got any videos?  Or more pictures?  Or by any chance is there going to be an official video of the Masquerade that a person can buy?  One of the drawbacks to being in the Masquerade is that you don't really get to sit back and enjoy all of the presentations, so I'd really love to see them.  If anyone knows where I can find a vid of the event, please let me know!  I'd really, really like to see it.

Also, if anyone met me during the convention and you want to friend me or I missed your screen name, squeak up!  (For reference, I was the highly outspoken Hobbit on Saturday, the cranky Starfleet medical officer on Sunday, and one boy wizard in Quidditch robes on Monday.  Hi everyone!)

For the seventh time Arisians answered the call to give life. The 101 successful donations to MGH & Children's Hospital are desperately needed, as two Arisians who were former patients of Children's came to tell us and the donors as they donated. The coordinator from Children's sent this as part of a message today: "Thank you for all your hard work, our blood supply has been very low the last couple of weeks and we appreciate all your hard work." Hard or no, I'm answering a call to act, just as all you donors and volunteers do. Bravo, everyone!

Hello all you lovely fen. Hopefully you've recovered (mostly) from your weekend of con goodness.

I organized the belly dance show on Sunday, and I come to you seeking feedback.

I think it went rather well, but this was not due to my mad skillz as organizer, but rather that I had very competent and helpful Tech and Program people helping me with last minute mistakes, and very talented and patient dancers for friends.
Several things that seemed to fix issues from previous years:
We had a raised stage, so no one seemed unable to see.
And proper lighting.
And lots more room for the audience (and it was gratifying that it was still standing room only).

But after several people had approached me last year asking for a belly dance class, we didn't get much turnout for the class after. Was that because it wasn't listed in the program separately? Were the fliers posted all over the hotel any influence on your plans to attend? If so, is that not a good way to get new information about events out? What kind of things are you looking for in a dance class?

What issues did you have about the performance? Would a longer show and no class be better? Is it too much of a pain to make special seating arrangements for kids on the floor in front (yes, I know we'll be in a different hotel next year, but still)?

Also, I saw that at least 3 sources were videotaping--only one of them was someone I knew, the others were con staff and the Boston Phoenix--anyone know where I can access those at some point? Or does anyone have links to photos they took? I'll be checking the Flickr stream for Arisia, but if there are other photos floating about, we'd love to see them--there weren't enough pictures from last year!

Thanks for any help.
