Registration is looking for volunteers to help us at this year's con. As a registration staffer you would: register people and take their money; print badges for the pre-registered people; help hand out badges; re-stock brochures; hone the timeless art of line-wrangling, etc. We will train you, but it helps if you have previous computer experience. Flexible shifts available.

The group that works registration is a fun group of people to spend time with, and the registration desk is centrally located, making it an ideal place to hang out during the weekend. Our flexible shift schedules make it easy to help out with the con while never missing any of your favorite events or panels!

To volunteer for registration or to get more info please e-mail registration@arisia.org

Remember, volunteering 8 hours at Arisia is the only way to get an official Arisia Volunteers shirt, and 12 hours will earn you a membership for the following year!

We need registration workers during the following times:

Thursday Setup* (Time TBD)
Friday Setup* 10am-Noon; Noon-11pm
Saturday 9am-8pm
Sunday 9am-8pm
Monday 9:20am-2pm

*Work during setup will earn you double hours!

EDIT: we've moved the location of the registration desk for this year away from the doorways that it was near last year. So the issues of being cold due to doorway proximity should not be a problem!

Does anyone know whether suites have yet been assigned, or if they have not, when they are expected to be done? I had understood that allocation was set to begin in mid-September, but I haven't heard anything yet. Thanks in advance for any info.

I'm making my hotel reservations, and I'll have to request time off from work. The four-day schedule, Thu-Sun, is new this year IIRC, and I'm looking to see what I'd miss if I drove up from Philadelphia Thursday vs. Friday.

INFORMATION =
. Even an approximation would help.

(Sigh.) I guess I'll reserve for Thursday night. I can always cancel that night if necessary.

Just sent via the "error feedback" form on the Hyatt site:

I made my reservation on your site. I went through the whole process and was about to confirm, when I saw that checkout was at 12:00 am on 1/19: i.e., leave at midnight on the day I was supposed to leave. So I went to edit the information, and found that the checkout date had no time. OK, I figured, maybe that's just part of their system. So I hit BACK and I lost the whole reservation.

THIS IS STUPID. If there's no time required in the checkout field, then don't show one in the booking confirmation. If there is a standard checkout time, use that... NOT midnight!

I'm going to try the phone.

[EDIT, ~ 11pm]
The phone was just as bad as online, with
  • disconnections
  • a helpful and polite person at the national call center who took my reservation
  • a helpful, polite, and ignorant person at the national call center who, when I called back to specify QUIET BLOCK, told me to call the hotel's local reservation desk
  • an idiot at the hotel who blithely ignored my specific request and sent me back to the national call center, where I was told that there IS no local reservation desk
  • someone at the hotel who transferred me to the asst manager's extension, where I left a message,
  • and the asst manager, Charles Rinehart if memory serves, who
    • called me back a few minutes later,
    • checked the database,
    • worked out the discrepancy between theirs and the outsource company (Passkey) that took the reservation, and
    • confirmed that the reservation was indeed in place
    • told me that unfortunately the quiet block was full up and my rez is in active block
    • and invited me to call him back tomorrow for more help
