My sincere apologies to the staff and attendees that the Raptor Demo had to be canceled for today. Lest rumors fly like owls at the Dursleys, let me say the owl was having serious behavioral issues, and it was deemed not safe for me to attempt this with him in his current mood, as well as not safe for him to go through the stress of Arisia right now (and my attempt at getting another owl last minute failed). It's unfortunate timing all around, and I appreciate the understand I have received from the staff for this.

So very sorry to disappoint! Hopefully another time soon!

This is a bit late but on the off chance that anyone sees this in time I post here as well as post a few fliers. The tea tasting was very much a success on Saturday. I'm hosting a quieter one in my room, 884, Sunday starting at 4:00 PM. The end time is a bit fuzzy but certainly won't go much later then 5:30 or 6:00. I'll do this again next year, with a bit more notice and advance planning. :)

Perhaps I've bitten off more than I can chew, but as I promised on two of the panels I was on this weekend, I've started communities here to cover the relevant topics:

[livejournal.com profile] gateway_sf, Science Fiction & Fantasy Literature for Pre-Adults, a community for sharing books (and, secondarily, other media) to get children and teens interested in genre fiction. Inspired by panel #266, "Addicting Your Child" at Arisia 2006.

[livejournal.com profile] gamehorrorstory, Game Horror Stories, for sharing stories about stupid, weird, and (most of all) funny behavior connected to roleplaying games of all sorts. That one's from panel #182.

Thanks to everyone who did panels with me, or attended one, or worked on the con in any way. Things went really smoothly this year, at least from the perspective of a program participant. I've done every Arisia since (including) the first one, and the improvements are simply amazing. I'm looking forward to the next one!

This is a general warning to anyone who may have had their child in babysitting this weekend at the same time as my child Liam. We think Liam has pink eye. His eye is bloodshot and he's got gunk in the lashes, it's only one eye, it's itchy, and he's complaining of being tired and not feeling well.

We will be taking him to the doctor tomorrow and will find out for sure. I will post again after that.

For those interested in continuing or branching off from the topics discussed at the "Livejournal as a Social Medium" panel, [livejournal.com profile] arisia06_126 is now open to the public. Please stop by; you don't need to have attended the panel to participate.

Thanks for a great con, everyone! I look forward to seeing you all next year.

Do you have MLK day off work? If you do, please come down to the Park Plaza and help us load a truck at 10am tomorrow (Monday) morning. This is only a half load, none of it is funny shapes, and most of it is on wheels. But we still need people, and hours worked count double. We'll also need people to join us as we head to Somerville to unload. We will provide lunch.

Again, that's Monday, 10am, at the hotel, double gopher hours, and free pizza. Hope to see you there!

Quiet room

Thanks to all for a very well-run and enjoyable con!

One thing I was pondering was the feasibility of having a quiet room next year. Someplace for people to unwind from the chaos for a bit-- muted lighting, perhaps very quiet music, lots of comfy floor cushions, no talking allowed. Maybe an electric kettle and some herbal tea available in the corner. I know I personally could have used something like this by late Saturday afternoon. ;-) (I did try out the green room, which had a comfy sofa, but it was full of people telling very loud stories. Earplugs won, but only barely.) I think you'd probably only have to run it from, say, 3 PM to midnight on Saturday-- nobody's had time to be seriously fried yet Friday night or Saturday morning.

Good idea, bad idea, any comments?

Whomever put lots of tea and best of all herbal tea in the Con Suite you rock.

Hello staffers (et all),

Not sure if this is exactly the appropriate venue for it, but since I didn't get a chance to make it to the gripe session today.. :)

I would definetely like to see the Live Journal Social Hour done again..but could we please do it in a much larger venue? At least until I learn how to make myself two dimensional, or teseraction technology is perfected? :)

But seriously, other than that, I had a great time at the con. First time in about four years since I've made it, and most of the changes have been positive.

Thanks!
