Hi Arisia-ites!!
Due to a sudden scheduling conflict that came up for my host, I need to find sleeping space for Saturday so that I can enjoy my first Arisia. I am on a panel on Saturday at 1 PM but have Friday/Sunday sleeping space and transit. I am willing to sleep on the floor and am willing to help with the cost of a hotel room for that night, or whatever arrangement you'd like to work out. I already have an immune disorder and so it's important that I not wear my immune system down and catch con crud, because it may take me months to get rid of it, so please don't suggest sleeping in a screening room. (seriously, I was sick for ten weeks this fall, no lie).
Also, because of the way they put me in the program, I'm on a panel all by myself. This is my first fan con so I don't know the protocol. Am I expected to sing and dance and lead discussion for an hour, or can I let the panel out early after I do my thing?
My panel is at 1 PM Saturday and I believe that they are calling it Communities of Practice on LiveJournal. (I didn't write my program description.) I'm an academic researcher who studies LiveJournal, and I'll be giving my paper on the anthropology of LiveJournal which has been presented at the national anthropology meetings, talking briefly about other people who are studying LiveJournal and blogging as a whole, and then leading a discussion about why LiveJournal is important as a social entity and what we can learn from it--social theory and anecdotes. So if you've ever had to try to explain to a non-LJ enabled friend or family member what it is that drives you to trust complete strangers from across the country, this is probably the panel to help you have an easier time with that question.
thanks,
