Family-Friendly Arisia

Hello everyone!

I am making a handout for people interested in the family-friendly side of Arisia. I'll be listing the events and programs that aren't already covered by Fast Track, as well as some dos and don't s.

I'm looking for any input from panelists/event hosts that would like me to include their item on the flyer. So far, I'll be listing the Geeky Play Dates, the Geeky Belly Dance, and Drum Circle.

What I am looking for are things parents/guardians can do with their kids. I'm not looking for things that little ones are dropped off at.

All suggestions welcome!

I would suggest some info on toy weapons. In the past I have sent several kids to Security to have their toys "peace bonded" or otherwise made to conform to Arisia Security standards.

There is lots of cosplay at Arisia by both adults and kids, and the kids and parents need to understand that their toys count in this category. We all want to have fun in a safe manner.

Many of the filk panels, and the shanty sing (if it's going on this year) are also good with kids. At least, mine likes them.

But mine likes to sing, too.

Do you know if there are "Saturday Morning Cartoons" again, too?

I have taken my kids to the late night movie/radio/plays with great success.
My kids are now 12 & 14 though... and night owls.

Are there specific age ranges are you planning for?

What a good idea!

My collaging panel, in the arts-and-crafts track, welcomes kids from age 10 up.

I'll be hosting two open room parties for all ages Friday night and saturday morning at Arisia. "Dr. Molotovcocktail's High Tea Party" 8pm Friday and "Dr. Molotovcocktail's Elevens Tea time" Saturday at 11am.
Suggested age groups are probably 10 and up. A crowded party, caffeinated & hot beverages and lots of pretty antiques around the room are probably not safe for 5 and under. There will be Tea refreshments, tea sandwiches & other snacks and raffles Friday night. Thank you so much for doing this! :D

Ziggurat Labs' Pajama Party, on Friday night is family-friendly. Adults & kids are welcome from 7:30 to 8:45, with bedtime stories read aloud at 8pm. (After 9:15 is adults-only.) All ages are welcome, and pajamas are encouraged.

I don't know if they'll be back this year, but my son always loved the Higgins' Armory Demonstrations when he was younger. When he was 6-10, we'd pretty much have to spend the whole morning camped out there because he didn't want to miss any of the demos.

We are throwing an Alien Worlds party on Saturday night. It is intended to be an all-ages party, and there will be no alcohol. It starts at 8pm so early-to-bed children can come.
