Patrick McGoohan, RIP

Patrick McGoohan, the creator and star of the cult TV show The Prisoner, died yesterday in Los Angeles. He was 80 years old.

Would a retrospective panel on him be appropriate, do you think?

I know...jeeze, I practically worshipped that show when I was a kid. I actually put an old Radio Shack tape recorder up against the TV speaker and recorded every episode. I listened to all of those tapes quite a bit, too!

VCRs weren't available to the public back when I first watched The Prisoner! I wish they had been, because there were a lot of great things that I wish I could have recorded.

I wonder how this might affect the possibility of a Prisoner movie? To be honest, I've been dreading the prospect. I'm sure Hollywood would screw it up unbearably.

No need to stop worshipping the show! I just rewatched a few last week. Sigh.

Oh, I haven't. I have the whole series on DVD - it was the first series I ever bought. It was truly one of the most intelligent and provocative works ever made for television.

iParty has helium tanks and balloons, but Ihave no time, or cargo space to help make it happen....

It's my understanding that after Mr McGoohan died, he suddenly awoke to find himself in a small flat in London.

Sadly I think it's to late to dedicate an entire panel to him. I think I shall suggest the convention start a regular panel to memorialize all the people we have lost in the past year. Does any one else feel older as the heroes of their youth pass?

So much for getting him to judge the KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN-yelling contest next year.

Pity. Apart from his Trek appearances, and the always-memorable Cordoba commercial ("fine, Corinthian leather"), he was actually pretty cool as Mr. Roark in the pilot of Fantasy Island. Later on the show became an awful, painful joke (does anyone remember Roddy McDowell as the disco-dancing Devil?), but the pilot was really quite good!

A last minute panel would be cool.

Mr. McGoohan now has the chance to meet "the real" Number One.
