Special $89 rate for our Arisia Friends!!!!!

Hello from the Courtyard by Marriott "Just Outside the Square"! We are the newest hotel on Memorial Drive and are just a 15 minute walk from the Arisia Events at the Hyatt (a complimetary shuttle is available on a first come first served basis!). The hotel has an "A La Carte" and Buffet Breakfast restaurant, evening Lounge for drinks, indoor pool and fitness center. Every room has Flat LCD screens and COMPLIMENTARY WIRELESS throughout the hotel. Our guests get to enjoy complimentary activities Tuesdays through Fridays like our "Science Lab Martini Experiments". This weekend we are offering our Arisia friends an $89 Arisia Rate! You can go to www.cambridgecourtyard.com and when you select the dates write ASAASAA or call 866 323 4159 and mention 'Arisia' to receive the special rate.

Thanks, but -- now that you're here, shouldn't your username be "courtyardjots"? It doesn't look very professional otherwise. Sorry. :-}

hey, can I get Marriott Rewards points if I use that rate?

[identity profile] bobquasit.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Interesting. If I'd known about this several months ago, I might have considered it. As it is, I don't think you'll get too many takers; most people who were going to stay at the con probably signed up long ago (like me). And the lower cost, while nice, may not be large enough to bring in many more guests.

Still, I hope you'll offer something like this next year too. Assuming that my dreams aren't fulfilled and the Park Plaza management doesn't come to its senses, of course. Image

Arisia has already signed a contract with and is looking forward to returning to the Hyatt for 2010. We have not yet signed an overflow hotel contract.

My position is a new direction hotels are experimenting with. As the Experience Specialist I am in charge of hotel packages and planning all of our different travel experiences. The other part of my job is to plan and arrange our afternoon activities. Tuesdays through Fridays our guests are able to attend different events, like Sushi University (You learn to roll Sushi and taste different Sakis) or Jazz Jam (A wine and cheese with 50's beatnick Jazz). My favorite is my "Science Lab Martini Experiments". When planning this I let loose my inner geek. Using IV Bottles, Test Tubes, Beakers and other Lab Equipment, I teach guests to make their own martini. I gave it a Sci-Fi twist inspired by the old Serials I grew up watching. Plus I never thought I'd find work in hotels that let me play with dry ice and booze... Check out a photo at http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=logo#/photo.php?pid=2246170&id=56141106205

I'm curious-- I live three blocks from your hotel, and haven't been in since it reopened. What are these Science Lab Martini Experiments, and are they an available in the bar so those who live in the area can partake?

Re: Special $89 rate for our Arisia Friends!!!!!

[identity profile] courtyardjots.livejournal.com 2009-01-14 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
They are only available in the activity area and are guest only events. But having had so many great times with Arisia I can try to make arrangments for some of you guys to attend one. Write me at anthony.mccomas@marriott.com and I can try to sneak you and a guest in one of these afternoons (the activity is 5:30 to 6:30 usualy twice a week). You can also take a look around the hotel while you are here. Completely different!

Awesome, thanks. I'll shoot you an email. Yours is the closest bar, so we used to frequent the bar there for a quick evening drink, but got out of the habit when it was closed for so long. We'll have to get back into the habit :)

If there were a way to have the science lab martinis or sushi rolling as a special thing for Arisia attendee guests next year, that might up the incentive for people to stay there. You'd have to plan carefully timewise or people wouldn't come back from the Hyatt for it, but it could go over well as an early Friday night kickoff, or around dinnertime when many people leave the Hyatt for food and go back to their rooms to change for the evening anyway.

Note that this isn't the same Marriott as the one we're running our shuttle bus to, so please don't complain to that Marriott about not getting the $89 rate.

We live in Somerville, but a group of us are coming in for Arisia, and just might take you up on this. Crash space with a shuttle bus and a non-outrageously-priced restaurant might be a good idea. Hell, I might do it just for the pool. :D

Thats great! Unfortunately we do not have a Lunch/Dinner restaurant on site. We have the full service breakfast room for both Buffet and A la carte and then the bar for the evening service. For food options we have delivery places and a complimentary hotel shuttle to Harvard Square/Kendall Square and Central Square.

Just curious, how much is the buffet? I'm a bit of a connoisseur of breakfast buffets. The Regency's is pretty good, I think, but pricey; it's not as good as the old Cafe Rouge was at the Park Plaza, but of course that disappeared long before Arisia left the PP.

A lot of hotels these days have a complimentary breakfast buffet which is, well, somewhere between "limp" and "uninspiring". Personally, I'd much rather have a good buffet and pay for it, as long as the price isn't completely impossible to live with.

I’m a big fan of the breakfast here (although mine is a biased opinion...). The "Courtyard Buffet" includes (eggs any style an omelet station, make your own Belgian waffle bar, hot and cold cereal, fresh fruit selection, yoghurt, breads and pastries, bacon sausage and the usual buffet stuff. Its $15.95 on our second floor Monday through Friday 6:30AM to 9:30AM and Saturday and Sunday 7:00AM to 10:00AM.

I just got a room at your hotel, at the $89 rate. Thanks!

If anyone (female) is looking for a roommate to split hotel costs, if you're female, and if I know you, then shoot me a line. Also, I will have my car with me, so I can drive us both to the convention.

Best regards,
Catherine Asaro

It's probably too late for me to change my plans but I would like more info. How big are the rooms and, more importantly, how many beds? (I'm looking for two beds, plus perhaps a cot, for three people) Free parking? If not, how much?

[identity profile] ledeir.livejournal.com 2009-01-15 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
will there be overflow parking for people who are just going for the day?
(free or otherwise)

There is a charge for overnight parking, but the lot is only available for our guests overnight or the Breakfast Restaurant/Bar.

$24 is the parking charge?

Re: Special $89 rate for our Arisia Friends!!!!!

(Anonymous) 2009-01-16 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Our standard overnight parking rate is $24. We may be able to work something out for next year if we do any overflow rooms for the event.

[identity profile] transversecity.livejournal.com 2009-01-16 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, the overnight parking isn't too bad, it just surprised me.

Is there any specific shuttle schedule? Or do I call the hotel and reserve a time? Or what? :)

[identity profile] courtyardjots.livejournal.com 2009-01-16 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Once you check in, the shuttle is "On Demand" He runs from 7AM-3PM and 5PM-11PM on Friday, Saturday 7AM-11PM and Sunday 10am-6PM. Hes on a radio so you can let the Front Desk know where you want to go and they page him so you are his next pick up!

What's the cancellation policy?

[identity profile] allenw01234.livejournal.com 2009-01-16 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm considering getting a room for Saturday night, but can't find the cancellation policy anywhere on the site (weather might change my plans).

Re: What's the cancellation policy?

[identity profile] courtyardjots.livejournal.com 2009-01-16 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Cancellation is by 6pm the date of arrival. And if the weather is bad after that we usualy make exceptions.

Thanks! Is the pool going to be open?
