Hotel temp?

Can we expect "normal" or chilly temps at the Hotel this year?

Normal for some people could be considered chilly for others.
Normal for me would be around 64 or 65, but other people would find that a bit chilly and prefer their normal of 70 or 72, in which case I would be dripping in sweat.

I have seen an Arisia staffer say elseweb that last year's issues were a fluke, and will be resolved this year.

Last year they deliberately lowered the temperature in exepctation that the large crowds of people would raise it back to normal range. That didn't work out well.

The Westin is usually cold compared to other hotels. It did seem especially chilly last year, but in going to Boskone the past 5 years or so, I've always found it cold.

The other excuse I heard for the chilly temperatures last year was that organizers mentioned that the attendees often wear heavy, multi-layer costumes, and they overheat. While that might be true for a furry or someone in a massive Victorian bustle gown, I think they didn't take into account the rest of us. And even then, it was still too cold.

Hopefully, they've learned a few things for this year.

No matter what the hotel says, plan for both. I have yet to go to a con where it is not the case that some rooms are hot, some rooms are comfortable, and some rooms are downright frigid, varying depending on the AC, the number of people in the room, the size of the room, the activity in the room, and the time of day.

Last year's varied-across-the-hotel temperatures were due to the hotel being poorly designed. The front door "airlock" does not function well with high traffic, and leads directly into the huge open area, so even a slight wind outside results in huge very-cold drafts moving at random through the concourse. Also there was poor pressure and air flow management in the hallways behind the rooms on the art show side of the hotel, so large amounts of freezing cold outside air came in through those service hallways.

These problems CAN be solved, but I haven't heard about anyone addressing them this year :(

Oh chilly would be nice. I usually find I am way too warm at most Cons.

i'd say, don't bet on warm all weekend, even if the hotel does everything right -- the low on Sunday is forecast to be 9 degrees.
