Hi all,

Thanks for being so patient with us while we go through some strange shenanigans with our web stuff. Anyway, the site is up, but we're still testing the online registration process, so you'll need to use the "print the PDF and mail it in" method for now.

Anyway, please take a look and let me know your feedback, etc. Remember though, I'm a human too, so please don't be rude. Criticism is welcome; nastiness is not.

ETA: Yes, the site is B&W. We're going to get art (hopefully!) from the Artist GoH and add that soon.

Also, we're working on getting rid of the redirect, but if it causes you trouble, you can click here instead.

It looks very clean. I like clean pages, but this veers toward antiseptic.

New site

I'm using IE 6.0 and it also gets stuck in an "infinite" loop.

I used to have IE 7, dumped it in favor of 6.

I haven't even tried IE 8.

How about a site that can be read on a Blackberry?
(it also gets stuck in a loop.)

Other than that it looks fine on the Blackberry.

After a brief look, I'd say to lose the lens background or make the text and links darker; it all gets hard to read. I'd also have to say the monochrome look (especially for the link text) isn't my cup of tea; I like some colour. :-)

set the background colour; right now it's unset so there's no guarantee that it's on white; the result is a lot of pixelation on the logo for anyone who has a different bg colour.

If it won't be moved to an arisia.org site, I'd probably change 'Thank you for visiting Arisia.org!', since that's not where you are. I don't think you need it, really.

I find the 'public' and 'read more' things confusing. I don't intuitively understand what 'public' is linking to (i mean, i've followed it, but i still don't get what that is. is it a content tag? nothing tells me), and 'read more' is confusing not in its intent, but in that location. If you can control the placement, i'd suggest moving it away from other tags, and make it look different (italics, etc).

actually, you might want to turn the logo into a png, anyway, to avoid those nasty pixel issues, and so you can veer safely away from the monochrome issues mentioned above by playing with the background colours safely. I don't know what tech you have, but if you can't do a png yourself, send me the largest, clearest logo you have and i'll do it for you.

There is a logo on there? I don't see it in IE 6.

Also I noticed the infinite loop seems to be calling
MSNBC.com (my current home page.....could it be calling
my current home page?)

I like the clean look....I have a high speed connection
but not everyone else does....some still have S-L-O-W
M-O-D-E-M-S. Lots of graphics are nice but
not everyone has a high speed connection for them.

I think "public" is working like a tag - going to all sections that are tagged public.

This could be used to tag future info bits as "Track" "GoH" etc, or even Programming, Hotel, Volunteers.

I'm also having issues reading the text that overlays the lens background. And some color somewhere would be nice, but I flail at graphic design, so that's about as useful as I can be wrt that issue.

But at a quick glance, it looks like all the right information is right there, easy to find, I like the font style/size and general look of the page, and the countdown clock is amusing :)

My IE6 browser gets stuck in some kind of loop and never gets forwarded to the new website. It just clicks and refreshes constantly. (I know I do not have the most recent version of IE, but I'm at work and the IT folks control when apps get upgraded.)

I also find it hard to read the text against the shield background. Otherwise the website looks fine.

FYI, I noticed on http://2010.arisiahosting.org/boston_events you had question marks about United Fan Con. They morphed into the New England Fan Experience at http://www.nefe.us/ and the dates are November 13-15.

Have to agree with the comments above. It *is* nice and clean, but lacks in color and contrast. I *want* to like it, but I do find it a bit jarring. Sounds like you're already on track for improving that issue.

Mind if I ask a few questions?

Why the move to arisiahosting.org? My first assumption would be because it's a test site, but if that's the case, why is the main site redirecting there? (I definitely get the use of YYYY.arisia[hosting].org, so that each year has its own subdomain. Liked it so much I adopted it for philcon :-)

Are you using any particular framework or CMS to put this together or is it all custom work? (We're currently evaluating CMSes and so I'd love to know what others are doing and have discovered.)
